شیلد سنسور نسخه 5 امکان اتصال ماژول‌های مختلف مانند ماژول ارتباطی بلوتوث، ماژول حافظه SD Card و اتصال انواع سنسورها، پتانسیومتر، رله، دکمه، سروو موتور و شبیه به این‌ها را به برد آردوینو فراهم می‌کند.
این شیلد یا برد آردوینو UNO و برد آردوینو مگا سازگار است.
14 پایه دیجیتال از طریق هدرهای نری روی برد به صورت سه تایی SVG، پایه سیگنال(Signal)، پایه تغذیه (VCC) و پایه زمین (GND) قابلیت اتصال به ماژول‌های دیگر را دارد.
6 پایه آنالوگ نیز مانند پایه‌های دیجیتال به وسیله هدرهای نری به صورت سه تایی SVG در دسترس است.

The Arduino I/O Expansion Shield provides an easy way to connect sensors, servos and RS485 device to Arduino board. It expands Arduino’s Digital I/O and Analog Input Pins with Power and GND.
